4. The Authors Of Pain’s Raw Tag Team Championship Reign Never Had A Chance To Get Going
When The Authors Of Pain captured the Raw Tag Team Championship several weeks back, it gave fans hope of a resurgent tag team division on Monday nights. However, those hopes have gone crashing down after the powerful duo’s reign never clicked on all cylinders.
It didn’t help that AoP never had a real feud throughout their title reign and, in fact, the only feud involving the team had to do with their manager Drake Maverick urinating on Bobby Roode’s robe. The makeshift team of Roode and Chad Gable got a chance to capture gold last night when they teamed up against AoP and Maverick in a three-on-two handicap match.
The match was decent enough, even though the focus was a bit too much on Maverick much like the previous few weeks. However, that focus would end up being the deciding factor when Maverick’s over-zealousness wound up costing AoP. It looked like AoP was on its way to retaining the tag team titles, but when Maverick decided to mock Roode, who was laid out in the ring, Roode countered with a roll-up and got the shocking win.
Roode and Gable won the Raw Tag Team Championship, but the bigger story might be how lackluster AoP’s title reign ended up being. The duo just never got the chance to get going, and neither did the title reign that was overshadowed by a manager’s ridiculous beef with another superstar. The hopes for a renewed tag team division on Monday nights keep fading, and unless Roode and Gable get a fair shot, that will continue.
That tag team title win might have been glorious for Roode and Gable, but it was anything but glorious for AoP.
