Pete Dunne vs. Samoa Joe
Pete Dunne is the longest reigning champion on the WWE’s roster to date. While his title reign hasn’t been the most exciting – due to a lack of captivating feuds – Dunne has shown that he can be a central figure in feuds on NXT. He received a welcoming pop when he was introduced on Monday Night Raw by General Manager Kurt Angle in November of 2017. He’s been tagged as a prospect to watch by Triple H and when Dunne has been featured as a main event player in NXT he’s delivered.
Now, imagine him placed against one of the most ruthless but overlooked wrestlers on the WWE roster, Samoa Joe. When thinking of people who haven’t received the best booking since joining the WWE in the last five years, Joe is a name that must be near the top of the list.
A multiple-time champion, Joe can match his style to face wrestlers from Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, to the likes of Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. Joe can mesh nearly perfectly with anyone. That’s exactly why he would be a great fit to be paired against Joe for a special match to help introduce Dunne to the main roster fan base.
Dunne versus Joe would be another hard-hitting match that featured both technicality and brutality. They’ve shown that they can exchange holds with anyone, but also go to the fisticuffs and throw knuckles.
The one caveat is that Joe would have to carry much of the verbal interactions as Dunne isn’t that great on the microphone, but Dunne can carry his own in the ring. Even though Joe hasn’t held a title since joining the main roster, he has enough cache that seeing Dunne go one on one with him would help create some investment in the 25-year old wrestler from England.
