30-Man Royal Rumble Match

The first of three already confirmed matches at the Royal Rumble is the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match with the winner getting the chance to challenge the WWE Champion or Universal Champion at WrestleMania 35. So far, only R-Truth has been confirmed as a participant, but there are quite a few superstars poised for great showings and potential wins here. One of the often overlooked benefits of the Royal Rumble is the ability for the match to further a handful of storylines while keeping the focus on WrestleMania.

Classic rivalries can get reignited, new superstars can debut, and alliances can fall apart in the Royal Rumble. Only a few years ago we saw AJ Styles shock the world by debuting in WWE as the third entrant in the Royal Rumble, and NXT’s jam-packed roster certainly hints at the chance for more call-ups. We’ve also seen NXT stars compete in the Rumble without actually moving to the main roster yet, such as Adam Cole and Andrade “Cien” Almas last year.

This year, the possibilities are truly endless when it comes to who could punch their ticket to WrestleMania. Seth Rollins has been on a hot streak for most of 2018, and this could be a chance for him to finally move back into the main event scene and target a top tier title. Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor are also prime choices from Raw, while veterans like Rey Mysterio and John Cena could also come out victorious.

Last year, WWE took a chance by having the relatively untested Asuka and Shinsuke Nakamura win their respective matches. Nakamura’s questionable booking throughout the rest of the year could push WWE to go with a safer choice on the men’s side, even if that means an unpopular choice. Don’t forget, Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble just two short years ago despite being well past the prime of his career. Anything can happen.
