10. Extreme Rules vs. Dolph Ziggler, Ironman Match For The IC Title

The Intercontinental Championship main evented the Extreme Rules Pay Per View, and while the crowd was more preoccupied with counting to the clock out loud, Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler tore the house down in the ring. Though AJ Styles and Rusev had the best match of the night for the WWE Championship and Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns was solid, Ziggler vs. Rollins was still worth praising.

These two men bring out the best in each other, and though some fans criticized the interference and potential logic gaps, the story-telling of each fall made plenty of sense. Sure, nine falls is a lot, but when future Universal Champion Drew McIntyre makes his presence felt in a match, there will surely be plenty of madness and plenty of pins.

The fact that this match main evented the PPV is worth stressing, because it shows just how much Rollins helped add to the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship that The Miz (and Ziggler!) first put back on the radar in 2016 as a member of the SmackDown Live roster. Rollins’s matches over the summer were all worth watching, so this was a case of WWE rewarding him by giving him the final match on the card.

9. Survivor Series vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Champion vs. Champion

Tabbed as a dream match by the WWE Universe, Seth Rollins faced Shinsuke Nakamura in a champion vs. champion match and won, putting over the Intercontinental Championship even more.

Despite splitting his attention between bitter rival Dean Ambrose and his Survivor Series opponent in the build to this match, Rollins managed to defeat Nakamura with “The Stomp” after a frenetic, strike-heavy match that was filled with counters.

Rollins’s speed and creativity were just too much for Nakamura to handle, and this match was yet another showcase of what Seth can do. Nakamura was also at his best in this match, and the result was an entertaining 20 minutes of action that didn’t involve any cheap interference from Ambrose.
