Royal Rumble matches typically are great at showcasing character work to WWE audiences.
Wrestlers who compete in them usually are given the time to hit some of their biggest moves, perhaps jaw with a new or old rival, and strike some signature poses.
Well, when you mention character work that needs showcased in WWE, you can’t help but think of Velveteen Dream.
Velveteen Dream is perhaps the best character and most dynamic superstar in all of wrestling today. He has a charisma that is on an entirely other level from the rest of the WWE roster. Its been made clear time and time again from his time in NXT that he is not only ready for WWE’s main roster, but ready for a push straight to the top of the entire company.
While it may seem easy for a superstar to get lost in the mix when fans see 60 wrestlers run down to the ring in one night for both Royal Rumble matches, Velveteen Dream has the star power to not only stand out, but to be what everyone is talking about after the pay-per-view is over.
The options to showcase Velveteen Dream’s abilities in a Royal Rumble match are nearly endless. He could just as easily hit the ring and take out every competitor standing in it with a flurry of his signature Purple Rainmaker elbow drops, as he could capture the attention of everyone watching by having a solo stare-down with one of WWE’s biggest stars.
On top of that, he could either make his debut with his signature purple-washed, smoke-filled entrance or with the entrance of another WWE star in a sign of a future exciting rivalry to come.
Take a moment and imagine the experience of John Cena’s music hitting in the Men’s Royal Rumble match only for Velveteen Dream to begin to saunter onto the stage dressed in full Cena regalia. It would undoubtedly trigger one of the biggest buzzes seen in years in the wrestling world.
When its all said and done, those sheer number of options available to WWE to give Velveteen Dream the captivating main roster debut he rightfully deserves are almost too great to ignore heading into this year’s Royal Rumble.
