Cedric Alexander

This time, Cedric Alexander could not defeat Hideo Itami in singles competition, missing out on an opportunity to compete in a Fatal Four-Way match for long-time nemesis Buddy Murphy’s Cruiserweight Championship.

But Alexander’s tough loss to the perpetually pissed-off Itami could open the door to a different opportunity and a chance to make an impression on the rest of the WWE Universe. Many fans aren’t able to find time to watch 205 or are otherwise unfamiliar with its biggest stars like Alexander, who was the first Cruiserweight Champion under the new direction of the brand.

Not only would it be awesome to watch Alexander, who is one of the biggest Cruiserweights, compete against main roster stars like Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins, but we’d also get an opportunity to watch Alexander and Ali go head-to-head in the Rumble.

Ali is poised to have a star-making performance, particularly after Samoa Joe tried to send him a message on SmackDown Live this week, and maybe WWE could give Alexander some rub, too. Alexander and Ali, after all, have torn the house down a number of times before, ushering in the new era of 205 Live with their match in Washington D.C. last January before killing it at WrestleMania 34 in the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Finals.

I have every reason to hope for Alexander as a surprise entrant in the Rumble, and there are few better representatives of the 205 brand than him.
