Ember Moon

Though the “Shenom” isn’t one of the favorites to win the WWE Royal Rumble match this year, there is an intriguing background story here. Since Asuka heads into the show as the SmackDown Women’s Champion and has a match against Becky, she’s expected to retain going into ‘Mania. Now, that is far from a guarantee, but it does seem like the most logical scenario, especially since a long title reign could put over The Empress huge.

Ember has been billed as a future champion by Michael Cole on commentary, and anyone who has watched Moon compete in the ring understands how high her ceiling is. An excellent babyface, Moon’s best work took place when she came up short at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III against Asuka. The two had a staredown at the Rumble last year, and a WrestleMania match between these two would be an excellent opportunity for Moon to get her revenge; it would also be a fabulous match.

We saw Moon shine brighter than anyone in last year’s Evolution Battle Royal before ultimately falling short, thanks to Nia Jax. Moon could get some revenge on Nia during the Rumble match with a cool callback to Evolution, though she, of course, wouldn’t be the only one with a reason to go hard after Jax.

There’s no doubt that Ember’s wrestling style is conducive to a star-making Rumble performance, and she should be able to build on her standout work at Evolution. Hopefully, she gets her chance to go the distance on Sunday.
