Mustafa Ali

Call this a homer pick, but Mustafa Ali has to be one of the most intriguing names in this year’s Men’s Rumble match. There’s such a slim chance of him winning on Sunday, but that’s honestly not even relevant at this point. Ali is still being introduced to the main roster crowd after blossoming into a future star on 205 Live with his tireless in-ring work, expert story-telling, awe-inspiring athleticism, heartbreaking selling, and incredibly meaningful promos.

We’ve seen all those skills on display on SmackDown Live over the past few weeks, and it’s time for Ali to get a chance to put that all together at the WWE Royal Rumble Pay Per View. Ali has been brutalized by Samoa Joe in back-to-back weeks, and he suffered a defeat to Joe last night via the Coquina Clutch after turning his back on “The Destroyer” while attempting an 0-5-4.

Ali’s athleticism will be fun to watch in the Rumble, but it will take a backseat to his selling. Vince McMahon told Ali that his “rare ability” to get the crowd to actually care about him is a money-maker, and this is WWE’s opportunity to work towards that in a huge way.

There are so many physical and figurative titans in this year’s Rumble match, and Ali has a chance to “scratch and claw” his way to the final four. Ali has so much star potential in WWE, just looking at what he’s done on 205 Live and in his month on the main roster thus far. I can’t wait to see what he does in the Rumble.
