This week on Impact Wrestling we were treated to several big announcements, but perhaps none as big as the reveal of the main event for Impact Wrestling United We Stand coming up near WrestleMania 35 in April. Two hardcore legends will be making their return to Impact, and they’re set for an absolute dream match.

As the allure of WrestleMania has continued to build over the years, we’ve seen more and more wrestling companies capitalize on having so many die-hard fans concentrated in a single area. On Thursday, April 4, three nights before WrestleMania 35, Impact Wrestling will partner will host United We Stand from the Rahway Recreation Center in Rahway, New Jersey, just over the state line from New York. The show is still two months away, but we now know the unbelievable main event that will close the night out.

Hardcore legends Rob Van Dam and Sabu will return to Impact Wrestling to take on current Impact World Tag Team Champions The Lucha Bros in what is being billed as an “Extreme Dream Match.” RVD, a former Impact World Champion and X-Division Champion, will be making his return to Impact Wrestling for the first time in six years.

Rob Van Dam will partner with fellow ECW alum Sabu, who hasn’t competed in Impact Wrestling since all the way back in 2010. The pair haven’t teamed together in nearly a decade, but will reunite for this event to take on the hottest tag team in wrestling today in The Lucha Bros.

While some fans have already expressed frustration at seeing Sabu and RVD competing at this stage in their careers, the context of the show is important to remember. This isn’t one of Impact Wrestling’s marquee pay-per-view events. This Thursday night special only a few days before WrestleMania 35 takes place on a week that will see plenty of nostalgic moments.

RVD and Sabu may not be the hardcore savants they were two decades ago, but they can still compete and give fans a memorable show against a team few believed we’d ever see them face. Pentagon and Fenix are arguably the hottest pair in wrestling today, competing all over the independent scene, capturing the Impact World Tag Team Titles in Mexico, and even joining upstart promotion All Elite Wrestling.

The Lucha Bros will be facing RVD and Sabu in an “Extreme Dream Match,” which means we should see an even mix of innovative offense from Pentagon and Fenix as well as innovative violence from RVD and Sabu. It may not be a match of the year candidate, but it’s hard to deny how interesting it will be to see these teams square off at United We Stand. Fans in the area can get tickets to see the show live in New Jersey, but it will also stream live on Twitch.
