The recent development in the WWE Championship picture is one nobody saw coming, and an 11-year odyssey for one long-term member of the WWE roster.

The emergence of Kofi Kingston in the WWE Championship picture over the past few weeks has changed the game on SmackDown.

Daniel Bryan has been WWE Champion since November, but his title reign has been threatened by Kofi’s unexpected rise in recent memory.  It looked like Bryan vs. Kingston was going to happen at Fastlane, but Mr. McMahon changed those plans in a hurry with the unexpected inclusion of the returning Kevin Owens in Kofi’s place at Fastlane.

KO’s return from injury has taken the Bryan vs. Kingston match off of the table at Fastlane, but that’s likely only to give Kingston an even bigger moment at WrestleMania 35.  Owens vs. Bryan should be stellar in its own right, however, given the caliber of competitor both superstars are.

With that being said, however, it doesn’t feel like the right time for an unexpected title change.

‘The New’ Daniel Bryan should retain his WWE Championship at Fastlane.  It would perfectly set up that sought-after Bryan vs. Kingston match at WrestleMania, and could even lead to a Triple Threat Match with Owens still involved.

It doesn’t necessarily matter how the WWE decides to do it, but Kingston needs to be involved in the WWE Championship match at the granddaddy of them all, and Bryan needs to be the champion.

The WWE Champion’s title reign could be in jeopardy, but it shouldn’t be at WWE Fastlane, and ‘The New’ Daniel Bryan should walk away still champion.
