Sami Zayn

It might feel like “cheating” to see Sami Zayn paired with anyone other than Kevin Owens at this point, because they are the best of friends and their careers have been closely intertwined at this point. Owens has made his return to SmackDown Live, immediately competing for the WWE Championship as one of Daniel Bryan’s two challengers – the other being the extremely gifted Mustafa Ali – at Fastlane.

It stands to reason that Zayn would join Owens on SmackDown to continue their story together, but that’s not a guarantee. And even if Zayn and Owens team up again on the “Blue Brand” after wreaking havoc there a year ago, Zayn can still appear on WWE Raw as a surprise partner for Finn Balor. After all, Shelton Benjamin showed up last week to take on Seth Rollins at Paul Heyman’s behest, so the brand split isn’t restrictive in this sense.

Zayn hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring in months since injuring both shoulders, but it seems like his return should be coming soon. While it might make more sense to hold off on bringing back Zayn until the Raw after WrestleMania when most storylines are reset, it’d be fantastic to see him in Chicago, and a “dream team” with Balor would definitely be worth a massive pop.

The WWE Universe definitely misses Zayn, and, well, let’s just say he and Lashley would have plenty of reason to go at it after their program last year.
