3. Kurt Angle vs. Chad Gable

The WWE return of Kurt Angle back in 2017 that started with a WWE Hall of Fame induction and led to an eventual in-ring return on a limited basis was great to see.  Angle was back home and a key part of Monday nights as the GM of WWE Raw, but all good things must come to an end eventually, they say.

It was recently announced by Angle that he will wrestle the final match of his career at WrestleMania 35 to put the finishing touches on a legendary career.  He competed last week on WWE Raw against Apollo Crews and would return to action last night against a superstar that was inspired to get in the business by Angle, former Raw Tag Team Champion Chad Gable.

Angle also said that Baron Corbin will be his opponent at WrestleMania, which should wrap up a storyline months in the making.  But last night wasn’t about competing against Corbin, it was about competing against Gable.  This match started out a bit slow, but it eventually picked up and had the fans on the edge of their seats at times with both men going back and forth looking for a win.

It was reminiscent of the old Angle that could roll out of bed and have a great match.  This was Gable’s first singles match in a while and he made it count with a great performance against a hall of famer.  But in the end, Angle would get the win by making Gable tap out to the ankle lock in vintage Angle fashion.  Corbin then cut a promo on Angle regarding their upcoming WrestleMania match.

Last week’s match with Apollo was decent, but last night’s match with Gable was very solid for Angle on his farewell tour.

Final Grade: B+
