Bianca Belair

There are only two reasons why the NXT creative team would book Bianca Belair to tap out so decisively to Shayna Baszler in the NXT Women’s Championship fatal-4-way match at NXT TakeOver: New York: the writers decided to turn her heel again or she’s getting called up to the main roster.

Between the two possibilities, a promotion seems more plausible; the main roster shows only nominally reference a wrestler’s time in NXT, so the submission defeat wouldn’t damage her character as much as an extended stay in Florida would.

Assuming her feud with Lacey Evans is of the one-and-done variety, RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will need some strong opponents to work with throughout the summer. A potential program with Belair would not only give Lynch — a straightforward, no-nonsense babyface — a great foil in the brash and supremely talented Belair but would also allow the company to gauge “The EST’s” upside as a money-drawing star on the main roster. The potential promos alone would make this a must-see feud.

If the NXT writers have no designs on pushing Belair as the centerpiece act of their women’s division, then propelling her to either RAW or SmackDown is the next logical step in her progression.
