Shayna Baszler

Whether you peruse the RAW or SmackDown women’s roster, you won’t find many heels that could challenge for Becky Lynch’s RAW and/or SmackDown women’s title’s without eliciting eye rolls, groans, or chuckles from a majority of the fanbase. Sure, the likes of Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville could craft interesting mini-feuds for the B-level pay-per-views, but for events like SummerSlam or Survivor Series, Lynch will need a bigger name opponent to stand opposite her.

Enter Shayna Baszler. The two-time and current NXT Women’s Champion has spent the last year or so lording over the NXT distaff ranks as one of the best antagonists in the industry and she would face little difficulty getting her character over on in front of mainstream audiences.

The main roster creative team wouldn’t need to strain themselves drafting an introductory story for “The Queen of Spades”; they could play off of Baszler’s friendship with former RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey as well as the anticlimactic finish to the Lynch/Rousey/Charlotte Flair WrestleMania 35 match as the impetus to go after Lynch and her titles. From there, the writers could rinse and reuse much of the Rousey/Lynch template with the added bonus of Baszler being a superior talker compared to Rousey.

Baszler has been main roster ready for a while. We’ll see if McMahon pulls the trigger on the call-up this week.
