Jon Moxley’s next move: a trip to the world of MMA on the big screen
By Brett Grega
According to a recent report, Jon Moxley will be hitting the octagon on the silver screen for one of his first stops away from a WWE ring.
In a recent report by Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman, it was revealed that former WWE superstar Dean Ambrose, now seemingly known as Jon Moxley for his independent wrestling career, will be starring in the upcoming movie “Cagefighter”.
The plot of “Cagefighter” revolves around a, “lauded MMA champion who unexpectedly loses a havily promoted match to a professional wrestling star making his crossover debut in the MMA fighting world. Humiliated by the defeat, he must fight his way back to the top and earn his place for a rematch,” according to Wiseman.
The film, which interestingly enough is also being executive produced by former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Christian, is set to feature MMA luminaries like George St. Pierre and Anderson Silva as well.
Per IMDb, it appears like Moxley will be playing the wrestling star turned mixed martial artist named Randy Stone in the movie, a role he’s assuredly comfortable in given recent events. In fact, to add to that familiarity, it even appears like it could be specified that he’s a former WWE star in the picture to be precise.

Although this isn’t the cinematic debut of Moxley, he previously starred in the WWE Studios picture “12 Rounds 3: Lockdown”, it objectively sounds like a much bigger opportunity to shine compared to being shoved into one of WWE’s never-ending film franchises.
Moxley easily connected with audiences around the world in WWE, as he quickly grew to have one of the most easily recognizable characters in the company.
Backed by what sounds like a unique plot not too dissimilar from what many wrestling fans were hoping would have been the story of CM Punk’s UFC career, It will be intriguing to see how that character work Moxley was known for translates onto the big screen when it’s not included as part of Vince McMahon’s media holdings.
While I would hazard to guess that most fans wouldn’t have predicted this as one of Moxley’s first stops away from WWE, it will undoubtedly be an exciting career development to watch and follow.
