3 problem areas WWE should fix after SummerSlam
By Brett Grega
2. The shallow, yet amazingly talented, women’s tag team division
WWE has a somewhat similar, yet still unique, situation unfolding with the Women’s Tag Team Championships right now.
While WWE rightfully found a spot on the card to showcase the titles, along with the new titleholders, they really haven’t done much else besides that. The women’s tag division, as it currently stands, basically only has one path forward unless WWE starts making some actual changes or additions in the coming weeks and months.
The Kabuki Warriors versus Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross is certainly a money feud in it’s own right, there’s no doubt about that. Everyone involved is immensely talented, and could easily carry a multi-month feud between the teams.
However, once you get past that, the division essentially dries up. Fire and Desire seem to perpetually be on the losing side of their matches, which is starting to become it’s own problem entirely, and The IIconics really don’t have a face team to feud with to keep up their momentum now.
If WWE is dedicated to building a successful tag division for the women, and they should be, then they need to start by adding some more face teams.
That could come in part by simply turning the already fan favorite tandem of Bliss and Cross face, but that’s simply not enough on it’s own.
Sasha Banks returning to team with Bayley, on the other hand, would do wonders for the division’s depth. Similarly, pairing 2 popular stars together like Liv Morgan and Dana Brooke would also add some intrigue and potential that the division currently lacks.
Finally, promoting a team like Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke to the main roster, along with the perpetually ready to be called up Shayna Baszler, would be a huge asset to the division, especially if WWE found a quick and logical way to turn Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss face.
Either way, as it stands, WWE has too much talent already in the women’s tag division right now to let it go to waste due to simply not having enough teams to create fresh feuds with.
