Shawn Spears w/ Tully Blanchard vs. Cody Rhodes w/ MJF

Brandi Rhodes, Pharaoh, Diamond Dallas Page, and MJF all walked to the ring in Star Trek gear, and Cody made an entrance, rising through the stage with pyro. That was awesome. Poor Pharoah looked scared, but he came along to ringside. Cody asked MJF to stay at ringside.

The match started with Cody hitting a suicide dive on Spears and then nailing Tully! Tully got up, and a Rhodes faced off against Tully again, but Spears grabbed him and pulled him over the guardrail. Both men brawled into the crowd, and the crowd went insane. Cody hit a powerslam on the floor, as the crowd insane. Tully Blanchard gave Cody such an amazing look here, which said “I hate you. I hate Dusty’s kids.” It was so great.

Cody went to punch Spears, but Tully caught his arm and Spears hit a low blow. Spears got the heat now, beating on Cody and using every cheap trick in the book. Cody managed to hit a hurricanrana off the top rope Spears. Cody went for a suicide dive, but Spears turned around and hit an elbow that sent Cody crashing to the apron.

Spears hung Cody up in the ropes and hit a pump kicked. Spears sent Cody crashing crotch first into the ring post. Spears hit a clothesline in the ring and started to punch Cody right in the face. Cody managed to hit a dropping uppercut, but Spears sent Cody shoulder first into the ring post and then hit a draping DDT on the apron! Holy cow.

Spears took off Cody’s weight belt and then went to hit him, but Earl Hebner took it away. As Hebner was taking it away, Tully gave his belt to Spears and Spears started to whip Cody. Cody fired up and kicked Spears right in the face! Cody then locked on a figure four, but Spears rolled over immediately and put the pressure on Cody.

Cody got the ropes, but Spears hit a Death Valley Driver onto the entrance ramp. MJF was yelling in Cody’s ear “Don’t quit!” as the count got closer to 10, and Cody made it into the ring by the 9 count. As they both got up, Cody managed to hit the Cross Rhodes, but Tully distracted the ref and there was almost a 3 count. Tully taped up his wrist and looked like he was going to fight MJF! MJF folded his scarf and threw it at Tully. Both of them started choking each other, but Spears hit a pump kick to MJF and as Tully was beating on MJF on the floor, Arn Anderson came down to the ring and hit a spinebuster on Spears!

The crowd exploded, and Tully walks up the ramp asking Arn why his former Tag Team partner was on the side of Cody! Back in the ring, Cody grabbed a chair and Spears begged Cody to do it. Cody threw the chair down and hit the flip, flop, and fly like his dad. Cody then threw the chair at Spears and hit a disaster kick into the chair! Cody hit the Cross Rhodes and got the win!

Result: Cody Rhodes

Rating: ****½

This was so great. An absolutely fantastic, old school match. Spears had something to prove by showing he could work a main event match, and he did. MJF picked up the chair after the match and looked like he was going to hit Cody, but he threw it away and did a handshake with Cody and hugged him. The hint here was so great. MJF is going to turn on Cody eventually, and it will be delightful.
