The Sept. 2 edition of WWE Raw saw a major match made for the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view where Becky Lynch will defend her Raw Women’s Championship against the recently-returned Sasha Banks.

Last night’s WWE Raw gave fans an insight as to what the Raw Women’s Championship match will be at Clash of Champions after a couple of weeks of speculating since the return and shocking heel turn of Sasha Banks and at Clash of Champions, The Boss will now challenge The Man for her title.

Banks’ return and subsequent heel turn at the expense of Natalya started this predicament in the first place when Becky Lynch tried to help Natalya by fending off The Boss, only to get taken out with a steel chair.

Banks explained herself last week and basically said she believes the success Lynch got by main eventing WrestleMania should have been her and that’s why she took her ball and went home.

The inevitable came true last night when Lynch addressed Banks’ actions in a passionate promo.  The Boss responded and after Lynch accepted Banks’ challenge, the match at Clash of Champions became official and Lynch will defend her title against Banks.  The Man’s night was far from over, though, and in the main event of the night, she teamed with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley to take on the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

The match was fine, but the big moment came at the end when Lynch was down after Banks’ interference.  She was beating The Man with a steel chair, but Bayley intervened and tried to stop The Boss, or did she?  These two best friends let that relationship remain intact at the expense of Lynch when Bayley shockingly began to attack her with the same steel chair Banks was using, signaling what appears to be the long-awaited heel turn of Bayley.

This situation has quickly developed into one of the most must-see angles in the WWE.  Seeing The Boss as a heel on the main roster has been fantastic already and she already seems like a bigger deal than she has in quite some time.  In fact, Banks’ heel turn has even carried over with Bayley it appears.  It certainly seems like she is now a heel along with Banks, but focusing on the Raw Women’s Championship match at Clash of Champions a bit more, this is a huge match.

More from Raw

Not only is it a huge match, but it should be considered the biggest women’s match in the WWE since the triple threat main event at WrestleMania 35.  The story surrounding Lynch vs. Banks basically writes itself, but now with Banks as the heel in the feud, it gets even better.  These are two of the most decorated and important superstars in the women’s evolution that has taken the WWE by storm over the past few years.

They have both been at the forefront of innovation and groundbreaking moments for women’s wrestling.  Their history is well-documented, but The Man made some great points last night when she said she was always viewed as second-fiddle behind the likes of Banks and Charlotte Flair dating back to their NXT days.  She said while Banks was main eventing Raw and pay-per-views on the main roster, she was struggling to find TV time.

So, for someone complaining about not being in the same spotlight as Lynch in recent memory, Banks has more than had her time in the sun over the years.  You could make the argument that these are the two most over and impactful women’s superstars in the WWE right now, so it just makes sense to have them face off for the Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions.  Their history is well-documented and there’s a story there in its own right.

But the current story is there as well and with those two sides butting heads, so to speak, expect something great out of this match.  Both superstars are among the very best in the entire industry, so this match should be nothing short of outstanding and the storytelling should be just as great. Only time will tell, but the pieces are perfectly in place for something truly special.

The Man vs. the new heelish version of The Boss just sells and writes itself, so this should be viewed as the biggest women’s match since the WrestleMania 35 main event.
