In spite of some brutal booking that is leaving the WWE Universe booing and turning on him, Seth Rollins is still a fantastic wrestler.

Unless you live under a rock, you know Seth Rollins is the WWE Universal champion. He is being pushed more than any performer outside of the WWE RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. Rollins is fully capable of carrying the proverbial torch that has been bestowed upon him.

The problem that he has encountered at the moment isn’t his fault. WWE decided to put ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt in a program with Rollins and have backed themselves into a corner.

A WWE Pay-Per-View took place a couple of weeks ago where the main event was for the WWE Universal Title as Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt waged war in a Hell in a Cell match.

The ring was lit in red lighting, barely visible at home and who knows how it came across in the arena? Weapons galore and two men beating each other to a pulp. Rollins ended up gaining the upper hand after ‘The Fiend’ had controlled most of the match. Rollins stomped Bray Wyatt 11 times, hit him with a ladder, chairs and lastly a sledgehammer from underneath the ring.

The last calculated strike led to the ref stopping the match and disqualifying Rollins in a bizarre move that led the crowd in attendance to rain boos mercifully upon the WWE Universal Champion.

To follow it up, there was only a 30 second mention of the Rollins-Wyatt match on RAW the following night. Honestly, the WWE likely wanted all of us to forget it happened. Until the next week on RAW, of course. Seth Rollins declared he was going to the Firefly Fun House himself to confront Bray Wyatt.

When Seth Rollins stormed into the Firefly Fun House at the end of the program and “burned it down,” the crowd was once again booed vociferously in disapproval of Rollins’ actions.

The thin line between heels and faces are blurred in this scenario. Bray Wyatt and his Fiend character are being booked as menacing, twisted and evil. Yet, the crowd has fallen for the depth and intrigue his character represents. He has been a revelation the likes of which the WWE hasn’t seen in years.

Seth Rollins has been painted as the hero in 2019. He has overcome insurmountable odds to win the Royal Rumble. He defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Universal championship at WrestleMania. He lost the title to Lesnar at Extreme Rules as Brock cashed in his Money in the Bank contract after Rollins had wrestled in the main event. Then, at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins regained the championship, defeating Brock Lesnar once again to do so.

The weeks leading up to the match, Lesnar beat Rollins to a bloody pulp.  The sympathy attempts in which the WWE were trying to lead to regain fan support behind Rollins weren’t received well at all.

Even after he beat Brock Lesnar, the crowd continue to cheer Rollins for some weeks. Until, of course, the next Pay-Per-View when Rollins defeated another mountainous opponent, Braun Strowman. Both men are beloved among the WWE Universe. Strowman has not been given a run with the WWE Universal title yet.

This painted Rollins as the guy who would ultimately be booed in their match. No matter how hard the WWE thinks it tries, they are forcing the fans to turn on Seth Rollins, instead of the praise the company seeks. Now, among the the fans, Seth Rollins might have an approval rating lower than the President Of The United States.

I fully sympathize with the WWE Universal Champion right now. The fact is, Seth Rollins has been booked in a no-win situation by the WWE, which led the fans to turn their back on this talented performer. Is it his fault he was put into a program against the hottest act the WWE has had in decades? Not at all.

Does he have much say in whether he wins night after night? Nope. The fact is, Seth Rollins earned the right to be in the position he currently resides in. He did so from the moment he arrived in WWE developmental.

Even during his days as Tyler Black on the independent scene, he has been routinely lauded for his wrestling ability worldwide. In 2009 alone, Rollins could be mentioned in the same breath as Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles as the best wrestler in North America.

As a man with several accomplishments to his name, Rollins is insanely talented. Last year, especially during his Intercontinental Championship run, Rollins was universally loved for putting on main roster match of the night performances routinely. Crowds were left in awe by the talent he possesses. He will always be one of the first names most people tend to think of when asked “who is the most talented performer in the WWE today?”

The problem isn’t Seth Rollins. The problem is the WWE creative team. It’s backing Seth Rollins into a corner that he can’t currently get out of. He is receiving the invincibility treatment that his former Shield mate Roman Reigns once had and it’s causing fans to turn their back on him.

Night after night, Seth’s character has his back up against the wall and in the end, he always prevails. His character is seen as indestructible in the ring and character wise, is becoming bit generic. But Seth Rollins is still the same fantastic wrestler he always has been.

Now is not the time to turn on Seth Rollins. I feel that his ship can be rescued, but you can’t give him chuck ground and expect him to turn it into filet mignon. His character needs direction in order for the fans to respect him once again. The fact that he is still the WWE Universal Champion should be seen as a positive. You have to believe that Seth Rollins is capable of winning back your hearts again. Now, it’s on the WWE to make Seth Rollins, the character, great again.
