The Inner Circle keeps getting stronger
One of the biggest developments since AEW introduced Dynamite has been the formation of Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle. The stable has worked great introducing the audience to Sammy Guevarra, Santana and Ortiz while also throwing Jake Hager into the mix and on Saturday, they took another step toward being the most dominant force in AEW.
The night started off with a strong match between Proud and Powerful and the Young Bucks. One of my biggest issues with the tag team division is AEW’s need to make sure each team gets all of their offense in making some of the tag matches drawn out, but it sure didn’t feel like it in this opener.
Santana and Ortiz both looked like a million bucks even after eating a beating from the Rock and Roll Express after the bell and should be a contender in the tag team division sooner than later.
Later in the night, it was Jericho’s turn to prove the worth of the Inner Circle and did so against Cody Rhodes. Although Rhodes had his moments where he looked like he was going to win the title, Jericho’s win was sealed by dominance rather than outside interference when Maxwell Jacob Friedman threw in the towel during a Walls of Jericho.
With the promotion’s main title and a strong threat to claim another, the Inner Circle continues to be built up, which should make things more compelling moving forward.
