We have not seen Cain Velasquez on WWE TV since he lost his title match to Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel. Turns out the reason why is more so by design than by default.

When Cain Velasquez made his debut for WWE in the final minutes of the SmackDown premiere on the FOX network, it was admittedly made to the synchronized groan of the WWE Universe.

Granted, to be fair, most of those groans came from fans recovering after seeing Kofi Kingston lose the WWE Championship in eight seconds, but most of those groans were for fans not enthused about the prospect of a program between the former UFC competitors.

That aforementioned program culminated in a match at Crown Jewel, Velasquez lost in a match so short that it induced even more groans from fans. But, oddly enough, despite all of the time invested into getting Velasquez on television and in the ring, we have not seen Velasquez so much as mentioned on television since then.

There’s a reason for that, according to Tom Colohue during an episode of his Sportskeeda hosted podcast, Dropkick DiSKussions. During the latest episode, Colohue reports that Cain Velasquez entered the WWE with a pre-existing and severe knee injury, something he declined to mention to WWE prior to signing a contract.

Of course, because the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was brought in for a lot of money to wrestle, folks backstage weren’t too happy about not being filled into something so important. It’s caused some tension between Velasquez and some notable backstage figures.

“He’s not the most popular man right now with WWE management,” Colohue adds as he speculates that as the reason why we have not seen or heard about Velasquez since that Pay-Per-View in Saudi Arabia.

As of now, there is no telling for sure just how much this tension could affect Velasquez standing in the company in front and behind the camera, but we’ll be sure to provide updates as they present themselves.
