WWE WrestleMania 36 will take place in Tampa, and John Cena reportedly wants to have a major role at the Show of Shows taking place in his neck of the woods next April.

John Cena didn’t have a significant role at WrestleMania 35, but the WWE legend was more than willing to take a spot off the card in order to allow the the rest of the roster to have the spotlight.

On the Road to WrestleMania 35, Cena put over Finn Balor before the latter’s Royal Rumble title match against Brock Lesnar, and he also helped give eventual WrestleMania 35 main event hero Becky Lynch some positive spotlight during the holiday season.

But at WrestleMania 36, WrestleVotes reports that Cena wants to have a “substantial” role at the Show of Shows, and, well, who can blame him for that? As WrestleVotes notes, next year’s ‘Mania is close to where Cena lives.

Cena hasn’t been a major part of the show at recent WrestleManias when it comes to being in title matches. For example, he faced The Miz and Maryse with Nikki Bella by his side at WrestleMania 33, defeating the heel duo before proposing to her. Then, at WrestleMania 34, he had an impromptu match with The Undertaker, losing to the Dead Man after playing up an angle where he was panicking after being left with no ‘Mania match (nor a response from Taker before the show).

And last year, Cena didn’t have a match at all, which was unprecedented. He did, however, pop the crowd by bringing back the Dr. of Thuganomics to diss Elias in a move that nobody saw coming. I mean, the Dr. of Thuganomics dropping bars at WrestleMania in 2019? Crazy, right?

Roman Reigns is one name that comes to mind as a marquee feud for Cena, but if someone like Edge returns at around WrestleMania season, a match between legends could be appealing. Ever since the FOX deal, WWE has been reaching out to more big names, as John Morrison has re-signed and CM Punk is now working with the FS1 show WWE Backstage.

Next. Becky Lynch vs. Asuka is a chance for great storytelling. dark

So Cena can either put over a younger star, work with a current top star like Reigns, or have another throwback match with a legend from the past like he did at ‘Mania 34 with Taker. I’m sure if Cena wants a big match in Tampa, which is completely understandable especially after he didn’t have a match last year, then Vince McMahon will grant him one. And it’ll definitely be a match that moves the meter. Cena doesn’t just face anybody at WrestleMania, nor does he half-ass his programs.
