One of Baron Corbin’s biggest accolades is retiring Kurt Angle at WWE WrestleMania 35. He explained recently when he found out the match was on.

As the detestable heel character that he is, the Baron Corbin (or, better known now as King Corbin) loves to draw the ire of the WWE Universe by listing his list of accomplishments made thus far in his career with the company. At the top of that list, every time without fail, is when he defeated Kurt Angle in the Hall of Famer’s final match at WrestleMania 35.

Corbin retiring the former WWE Champion has become such a career changing moment for him and bragging about it has become such a staple of his promo schtick. Which is all the more interesting when we learn he was the last one to find out he was wrestling Angle at Mania.

On a recent interview with Rick Ucchino of The NHB Podcast (h/t to Sportskeeda for the transcription), the former Constable of Raw revealed when he found out his match with Angle was on. As it turns out, he learned the news with the rest of us on live television.

As Corbin recalled during the interview, he did not know about the match until he was watching Kurt Angle make the announcement in the ring on an episode of Monday Night Raw. Corbin felt it was a really cool moment that he did not see coming.

Furthermore during the interview, Corbin said that while his character despised the Olympic gold medalist, Corbin himself admits to have nothing but respect for Kurt Angle.

“You know to go against a Hall of Famer on the stage of WrestleMania, you can’t ask for anything better,” Corbin said himself during the interview. “I think the only thing equivalent would be a WWE Championship or Universal Championship match.”

It is interesting to look back on the Corbin vs. Angle feud in retrospect, considering how it dated back long before Angle even announced his retirement. While many fans may have wanted someone more deserving for Angle to wrestle his final match against, his match with Corbin culminated months worth of storyline.
