For those worried that WWE Champion Brock Lesnar may be wrestling a certain celebrity athlete at WrestleMania in 2020, fret not. Turns out those are just rumors and nothing more.

With Royal Rumble just around the corner, we are now officially on the road to WrestleMania. Which not only means the Mania card is slowly taking shape, but it means several rumors will be circulating regarding many of the matches that could join the card. Especially those concerning the WWE Championship match.

A few rumors have circulated recently regarding who Brock Lesnar who he could be defending the WWE Championship against on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Many of those rumors have suggested that The Beast could possibly defend his title against either boxer Tyson Fury or fellow UFC fighter Cain Velasquez.

The rumored reasons for these matches to happen at WrestleMania 36 is simply to add some mainstream appeal to The Show of Shows. As it turns out, not only is it unlikely that either of these matches will make the Mania card, neither of these matches have been in the cards to join the card in any of WWE’s inner circle discussions.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestleZone) recently revealed that neither Lesnar vs. Velasquez II or Lesnar vs. Fury have been penciled in to join the WrestleMania 36 card in April. If this is truly the case, then that begs one question: who will Brock Lesnar defend the WWE Championship against at WrestleMania?

If we’re being honest, a celebrity isn’t necessarily needed for the WWE Championship match. Sure, a celebrity marquee match wouldn’t hurt the Mania card per say (that’s exactly the kind of match we got for the main event of the first Mania), but it’s not like WWE is in shortage of new, Mania worthy challengers for Lesnar.

Looking at the Raw brand alone, guys like Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are all fresh names that spring to mind that Lesnar could face.

Who do you want to see Brock Lesnar defend the WWE Championship against at WrestleMania 36?
