With AEW’s initial promise of a highly competitive alternative to other offerings on the market came the inevitable pressure to deliver. While they haven’t all been five-star matches, AEW has certainly blessed the wrestling world with some barnburners.

Considering AEW officially got its start on our screens at the end of May, what they’ve been able to pull off in terms of quality has been nothing short of incredible.

It presented itself as the new league in the North American market which has been dominated by the same promotion for the past twenty years.

After sweeping up some of the hottest free agents in the business, it went right to work the absolutely stellar ‘Double or Nothing’ pay-per-view which more than likely helped them secure their national television deal on TNT.

If it wasn’t a match with death-defying spots, it was a brilliantly told story about the old generation versus the new. All Elite Wrestling turned up the volume and didn’t care if you were too old to listen to the sound beaming out of their speakers.

It’s safe to say we heard them loud and clear.

Entertaining wrestling coupled with solid booking – which didn’t even have a television show until early October – has made AEW’s inaugural year a resounding success. Cody, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Tony Khan, and the rest of the All Elite brass have produced generally solid events and will be looking to continue that positive momentum heading into the New Year.

Hell, I can’t blame them and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do within a full calendar year of storylines, pay-per-views, and new talent acquisitions.

We’ve taken a look at potential breakout stars and we’ve made our predictions for next year. Five pay-per-views in 2019 plus a myriad of ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Dark’ matches later and we’ve been able to comfortably draft a list of five of the best AEW matches from this year.

5. Private Party vs The Young Bucks (Dynamite – October 9th)

We had only seen mere glimpses of ‘Private Party‘ and their level of in-ring talent, athleticism, and contagious charisma; until they faced off against ‘The Young Bucks’ in the opening round of the AEW tag-team title tournament on the second episode of Dynamite.

With a win over Matt and Nick Jackson 0 arguably one of the greatest tag teams of our generation, if not the greatest – Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen shook up the professional wrestling world.

High off their high-octane first episode of ‘Dynamite’, AEW succeeded at keeping their momentum by matching up two of the youngest talents on their roster with two of the most popular superstars in the world.

Whether it was the top rope rana-stunner combination, the Bucks’ usual innovative offense, or the frenetic pace these two teams held for almost fifteen minutes, this is was one of the best matches of 2019.

It showed off the depth to AEW’s roster and created two new stars in the process.
