Finn Balor attacked Johnny Gargano backstage at Worlds Collide
Finn Balor and Johnny Gargano will have a match at NXT TakeOver: Portland next month, but the former Universal Champion decided to turn the heat on their rivalry by blindsiding Gargano after his match at Worlds Collide.
Both Finn Balor and Johnny Gargano were victorious at Worlds Collide, which was the NXT vs. NXT UK Pay Per View kicking off the 2020 Royal Rumble weekend.
Balor defeated rising star Ilya Dragunov to start the show’s main card, while Gargano teamed up with Tommaso Ciampa to defeat Trent Seven and Tyler Bate in what was a match for the ages.
But backstage while Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley were having a great match of their own for the NXT Championship, Balor tried to overshadow his victory against Dragunov by making a physical statement on Gargano.
Right after Gargano’s grueling tag match, Balor attacked the fellow former NXT Champion during his interview.
Balor threw him across a table and tried to start a brawl, but Tyler Bate, who received a strong show of respect from DIY after their instant classic, stepped in. Bate held Balor at bay, though Balor did manage to toss a security guard over a table.
Clearly, Balor despises Gargano with every fiber of his being and has a point to prove against NXT’s new ace. Balor helped build NXT into what it is today, but with his unprecedented run of in-ring greatness, the “Rebel Heart” took the brand to another level.
The story set up for NXT TakeOver: Portland is incredible, and Balor and Gargano have what it takes to put on one of the best matches of 2020 when it’s all said and done. This heinous, unprovoked backstage attack from the suddenly heartless Balor was a great way to kick things up a notch at what was a wonderful Worlds Collide Pay Per View.
