Cody def. Darby Allin – Jan. 1

Ahead of the Homecoming episode of Dynamite in Jacksonville, it was announced Cody and ‘The Enforcer’ Arn Anderson had agreed to a business partnership where the former Horseman would act as coach to the youngest of the Rhodes clan.

Their first match together would be against a former foe of Cody’s who took him to a 20-minute time limit draw at Fyter Fest last June.

The Darby Allin and ‘American Nightmare’ rematch did not disappoint as the two men tussled for just over 17 minutes with Cody coming out victorious following some heads up coaching by Anderson and a quick roll-up of AEW’s young star.

Not only did it immediately justify Cody and Arn’s new alliance, it kicked off Cody’s 2020 with a win as he picked up momentum heading into his likely clash with MJF at ‘Revolution’ assuming he beats Wardlow in AEW’s first ever Cage Match on the next episode of Dynamite.

As of time of writing, Cody is undefeated across the board this year.

On the other end of the spectrum, a second tilt with Cody left Darby Allin looking almost as good as he did following their first encounter. Chalking it up to Allin’s inexperience as Cody’s coach called for his pupil to put his knees up while Darby attempted his patented ‘Coffin Drop’ from the top rope.

Allin went on to main event ‘Bash at the Beach’ and last week’s episode from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. Needless to say we’ll be saying much more of this kid this year. It’s almost unfortunate he hasn’t been involved in any significant story lines leading up to Revolution.
