#3 – Charlotte Flair

No. of days as champion: 258
Successful title defenses: 6
Notable appearances: Successfully defended at TakeOver twice, appeared on Raw and Main Event as champion

Isn’t it crazy to think that Charlotte Flair was only the second woman to hold the NXT Women’s Championship? It was bound to happen at some point, and she made sure it was in May 2014 when she defeated former Divas Champion Natalya in the finals of a tournament at the first NXT TakeOver. With NXT, and the title itself, in its infancy stages, Charlotte didn’t have a lot of competition at first.

She knocked off Summer Rae in July before beating Bayley twice, with one of those defenses at TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way. Charlotte’s best title match to-date came in December at TakeOver: R Evolution when she and Sasha Banks had their first high-profile title match. The rest was history for them from there.

But even before Charlotte and Sasha’s first TakeOver match together, The Queen appeared on the preceding Monday Night Raw episode as NXT Women’s Champion in a losing effort against Natalya. It marked the first time the NXT Women’s Title had been seen on Raw. That final month of 2014 continued to be a big one when Charlotte and Sasha clashed again during the Dec. 30th episode of Main Event – something that was unheard of from NXT stars at that time.

Charlotte’s time at the top of NXT’s women’s division was just a taste of what was to come for the future Hall of Famer.

#2 – Asuka

No. of days as champion: 522
Successful title defenses: 10
Notable appearances: Successfully defended at TakeOver seven times

Asuka burst onto the NXT scene at the end of 2015 just as Charlotte, Becky, and Sasha were officially moving on to the main roster. The timing worked out just right as Bayley needed a WrestleMania weekend challenger right when Asuka was ready to take that next step toward title contention.

Asuka’s huge win in Dallas kickstarted her historic 500-plus-day reign which was unlike anything we had seen in NXT before. Asuka’s run as champion shifted title matches from periodic TV defenses to TakeOver-only bouts as NXT began taking all their special events on the road.

Those who fell victim to Asuka at seven different TakeOvers included Bayley, Nia Jax, Mickie James, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay, Ruby Riott, Nikki Cross, and Ember Moon. That list doesn’t even include the women who tried beating Asuka when the title wasn’t on the line.

The best part of Asuka’s title reign was we never knew when it would end. You could put her up against the tallest NXT star, a WWE legend, put her in a fatal four-way or triple threat, or even a Last Woman Standing match – none of those factors were enough to stop the Empress of Tomorrow.

Asuka carried on her undefeated streak to Raw when she forfeited the championship seeing as though no one in NXT would ever be able to stop her. Despite her booking on Raw and SmackDown going through the ups and downs, Asuka will forever be remembered as a legend in NXT.
