Naomi to NXT

As a guest on the Women’s Weekly Wrestling podcast, Naomi revealed that she asked to be drafted to NXT, seemingly so that she can work with Bianca Belair either as an opponent or as a tag team partner. While we obviously now know that Naomi’s request was turned down, I cannot get the idea of Naomi in NXT out of my head.

Not only because the idea of Naomi vs. Bianca Belair or the two working together in tandem just excites me to no end, but because I can see several different benefits to the former SmackDown Women’s Champion moving to the Black and Gold Brand. The main benefit being that Naomi offers that star power that NXT could use right now.

Ever since NXT got a live television deal with USA Network this past summer, WWE has tried to make the show a third brand rather than developmental (or at least give that perception that NXT is on equal par with SmackDown and Raw). A move to NXT for Finn Balor helped offer some star power to that brand, while also revitalize the former Universal Champion’s career after he hit a bit of a career slump the last couple years.

The same can work for Naomi, minus the career slump part. Naomi returned to a massive reaction at this year’s Rumble and despite recently losing a title match to Bayley, Naomi’s still over. For a lot of fans, bringing Naomi to NXT instantly makes the show must see TV.
