8. Gulf of Mexico Match: CM Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero (WWE ECW 2/5/08)

An easily forgotten entry on this list wasn’t even at a pay-per-view, but a weekly episode of the WWE reboot of ECW. In the fall of 2007, CM Punk captured his first title in WWE when he defeated John Morrison for the ECW Championship.

He managed to hold that title until late January, when Chavo Guerrero captured it on an episode of ECW. In order for Punk to earn a rematch against Guerrero for the title at No Way Out, he needed to beat him in the first (and only) Gulf of Mexico Match. Similar to the first match I mentioned, it’s important to note that this one took place at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, which is right on the banks of the Gulf of Mexico.

The fight quickly spilled outside of the ring and into the backstage area, where we couldn’t even see it for a minute or so because WWE didn’t have a cameraman in place to capture the action. Instead, we can watch WWE fans jumping barricades to try and leave the arena and follow the match.

Once they exit the arena, both men are almost run over by a car that screeches to a halt, only for someone to get tossed into the windshield. The brawl continues to near the dock where two random fisherman decide a few minutes in to leave, and it didn’t take much longer for one of them to get tossed into the Gulf of Mexico.
