AEW Dynamite: Jimmy Havoc could break out vs. Cody
With Blood and Guts postponed, this week’s AEW Dynamite will feature Executive Vice President, Cody Rhodes going one-on-one with Jimmy Havoc. Havoc hasn’t been a consistent feature on AEW TV lately but this match could be a sign of things to come.
Since losing to Darby Allin in a #1 Contender’s Match for the AEW World Championship back in October, Jimmy Havoc has been more of an undercard fixture in the promotion. Having only competed on Dynamite once since then — as part of the AEW Dynamite Dozen battle royal the following month — Havoc has spent most of his time on AEW Dark.
Havoc’s time on Dark has been eventful, picking up three straight wins on the show this year alone. Having submitted Sonny Kiss as well as putting Marko Stunt and Severino Corrente respectively down with his signature Acid Rainmaker, his overall AEW win-loss record currently stands at 6-5.
With Havoc on such a winning streak, it makes sense for him to be put in a prominent position against Cody who has not only arguably the most emotionally-driven in AEW since the promotion officially broke ground but is also one of the top-ranked singles competitors on the roster.

Havoc defeating Cody could be considered an upset based on their respective status in AEW thus far, but when you look at the former’s reputation, a victory isn’t as far-fetched.
In Progress Wrestling, Havoc still holds the record for the longest reigning champion at 609 days and had the most-emotionally driven story in his own right. From lovable underdog to cold-blooded champion and leader of Regression, his run is widely considered the best in the promotion’s near decade-long history.
Deathmatches are Jimmy Havoc’s specialty, proven by his 2017 Tournament of Death victory in Combat Zone Wrestling and countless bloodbaths against the likes of Paul Robinson, Sami Callihan, Mance Warner and others. Despite the stigma that deathmatch wrestling often carries, Havoc is more than well-rounded in a variety of match types and stories.
A victory over Cody would undoubtedly be Havoc’s biggest win in the company to date and could be the genesis for a drastic rise up the AEW rankings. Havoc definitely falls under the category of AEW wrestlers that a secondary singles title to chase after would benefit but until that time comes, pitting him against performers like Cody and building storylines like the one he has in the works with Luther is a satisfactory method to keep him in the mix.
Timely interference could potentially prove to be the difference maker in this matchup as Cody’s feud with MJF doesn’t appear to be over and Luther has had his sights set on Havoc for the last month. Cody is the favorite on-paper and even in the event Havoc loses, a solid performance is all it would really take to keep Havoc fresh in everyone’s minds.
The hope is that Jimmy Havoc’s momentum continues the upward trend it’s currently on as his charisma, brand of violence and in-ring ability could be beneficial to AEW for the immediate and long-term.
