CM Punk: Best in the World (2013, Length: 1h48m)

One of the most fascinating documentaries available is this deep dive on the life and career of CM Punk, which was done the year before CM Punk’s volatile falling out with and departure from WWE.

It also marked one of the first times WWE took the initiative to get footage from rival promotions like Ring of Honor, which were very necessary in telling the complete story of CM Punk’s wrestling career.

Like most of the career stories here, it starts early and looks at CM Punk’s early life and entry into the business. It then follows his independent wrestling career, and arrival in WWE’s developmental program, especially focusing on his relationship with Paul Heyman and the role Heyman played in his successes, and struggles, in WWE.

It continues through his WWE career, including the infamous WWE Championship win at Money in the Bank 2011 and perceived departure from the company at that time, and his ultimate decision to return which eventually led to the “Summer of Punk.”

While he’s not yet returned to the ring, Punk has re-entered the WWE ecosystem via his role on WWE Backstage on FS1, and this provides a great glimpse at the majority of his wrestling career.
