NXT Tag Team: Dakota Kai and Raquel González

I really wanted to put Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir here, but Duke is recovering from two shoulder surgeries this year so I needed another team. I know Vanessa Bourne and Aliyah have tagged together, but I feel like they are too close to the Iiconics gimmick.

So I decided to go with the pairing of Dakota Kai and Raquel González. Whenever this feud with Tegan Nox finishes, Nox should focus on being a singles competitor.

When it comes to Kai, going after the Tag Team Championship could work in both scenarios: either 1.) she loses to Nox and needs to rebound or 2.) she beats Nox and wants to capitalize off her momentum (and maybe reward González).

It would help to have González fleshed out more as a character. The lackey/hench(wo)man troupe can be old and tired quickly, possibly limiting wrestlers from progressing.

Elevating her to Kai’s partner could put her on more equal ground, and the pair can play off as a Shawn Michaels/Diesel pairing I believed worked so well when Ziggler and McIntyre did it in 2018. It was a great way to (re)introduce non-NXT fans to McIntyre while not putting all the pressure on him to carry.

Next. Drew Gulak as IC Champion? YES! YES! YES!. dark

Obviously, this situation is different, but it can help more than it can hurt.  It also allows Kai to grow as a character, and winning a championship can help build her credibility. At the end of the day, it’s a win-win.
