WWE NXT: 5 names who could win Interim Cruiserweight Title
Mustafa Ali
The WWE is looking for an opportunity to re-introduce Mustafa Ali. He’s been off television since Survivor Series while fans and pundits alike wish for his return.
There’s speculation that his return is imminent as the one hacking into WWE content. Ali was frequently one of the top names when he was on 205 Live but was never able to obtain the title. Perhaps that can be rectified as he comes back with a new character.
Ali is one of the most gifted individuals in the WWE. When he’s given time to perform, it’s rare that those watching do not walk away from his matches with praise. Ali could go on another run of excellent matches within this tournament.
Thinking back to the Cruiserweight Challenge years ago, Ali wasn’t supposed to be a part of that group as a last minute pull out gave him the opportunity that would grow into his main roster spot.
Putting the belt on Ali wouldn’t mean that he’s elevated on the main roster but adding him to the NXT roster would create an opening for some intriguing matches in the future.
Ricochet
Of all the surprise entrants that could be announced for the NXT Cruiserweight title tournament, none would be bigger than Ricochet. Just like with his tag team partner, Cedric Alexander, this wouldn’t mean splitting the team this early – but giving them something to do when the WWE is in a situation to create as much content as possible.
Ricochet, like Kushida, has all the accolades of a threat to anyone carrying the NXT Cruiserweight title. He’s held titles across multiple promotions including Dragon Gate, House of Glory, Lucha Underground and New Japan. Within the WWE, he’s a former United States champion and NXT North American champion.
His record speaks for itself. However, imagine the response if WWE created a space where he could compete with the likes of Kushida, Ali and others.
That’s the type of stage needed to remind wrestling fans that Ricochet is not one to be overlooked, no matter how bad the booking he’s been given in recent months.
