This bout should be a proving grounds for McIntyre as he aspires to validate his WWE Championship victory against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 with a definitive victory over fellow Beast Slayer, Seth Rollins, who similarly dethroned Lesnar a year earlier at WrestleMania 35.

Rollins keeps mentioning that he wants to unburden McIntyre of the top spot of Monday Night Raw because he feels that McIntyre is not yet ready to lead the red brand and carry it on his back. McIntyre needs to win to solidify his position as the leader of the flagship show and prove Rollins and all of his critics wrong.
