With the inaugural TNT Champion waiting to be crowned at AEW Double or Nothing 2020, it is time to reward Cody for his hard work.

There are very few who can argue that Cody is the best babyface in wrestling today. He has the crowd clamoring for him, he is an entertaining performer, and he helps elevate those that share a ring with him.

When AEW started, many feared that the company would fall into the bad practice of rewarding its Executive Vice Presidents with titles and strong pushes. So far, the promotion has done a good job of spreading the spotlight among its talented roster. Regardless of this, Cody has persisted and remains a fan favorite.

He has his share of wins, but also sports some major losses, with the biggest being that he cannot compete for the World Heavyweight title ever again.

Now, he finds himself in an interesting rivalry against a menacing opponent, Lance Archer.

Here are three reasons Cody MUST beat the Murderhawk Monster at Double or Nothing.

Cody should be a champion

In WWE, Cody was always a hard worker and competed at a high level. Yet, he was always stuck in the mid-card with a ceiling imposed on him. Frustrated at his potential being wasted, he was granted his release and started an unique journey.

Working his way through the indies and major promotions, he has won an array of major championships. Now he finds himself in a promotion he helped build. What’s more important is that he is in a promotion that has major eyes on it in the States. On TNT, for the first time in decades, wrestling fans have a viable alternative that is available, with ease, from their homes.

Cody has accomplished a lot in promotions like New Japan and Ring of Honor, but now he needs to solidify his post-WWE legacy in the US mainstream.

It’s a shame that he cannot challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship (at least for now).  The upside of his story in AEW is that it has an organic build, and he still has the audience on his side.

Giving this man a championship seems only logical: People love him, and he is a great worker. Let him continue to help elevate the rest of the roster. I think it’s time we start a new wrestling family dynasty by giving Cody some gold to match his weight belt.
