Sasha Banks’ opportunity is coming

WWE fans knew Bayley would retain against Tamina at WWE Money in the Bank 2020, but they did keep the door open for an upset victory from the veteran wrestler, who had stepped up her game for title matches at WrestleMania 36 and Money in the Bank.

Bayley prevailed in the end, avenging being pinned during a tag team defeat on the SmackDown go-home show. She received help from Sasha Banks in the process, but there was no big tease of a break-up during the show.

WWE are in an interesting situation, since they have clearly been building toward Sasha vs. Bayley ever since the two started interacting on SmackDown last year. But this feud needs to be done in front of a live crowd, and with Boston not having large gatherings in July and August, that takes SummerSlam out of the equation.

That said, WWE also can’t keep waiting on this storyline. At the beginning of their excellent tag match on Friday against Lacey Evans and Tamina, Bayley and Sasha had some communication issues; their problems have both been clear and subtle.

Banks’ opportunity to grab the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career is coming soon, and Bayley’s quiet title defense at WWE Money in the Bank 2020 should be taken as a sign of things to come. Either in the form of an escalation of conflict, or in the form of a run at the Women’s Tag Titles. The latter may be more preferable right now, but there is gold in Sasha’s future.
