Moxley’s run has been a dud

I provide this constructive criticism with love as a fan of the man, but Jon Moxley’s title reign so far has been a bit of a dud. Obviously, it’s not his fault, as his title reign came mere weeks before the novel coronavirus pandemic slowed things down in the wrestling world.

As a result, there were several weeks (until recently) where he was M.I.A. from AEW TV, then returned to have a disappointing title match with Jake Hager that was hyped way higher than it ever should have been; impossible to live up to expectations when even the President of the promotion hypes it as the “best empty arena match ever” before it even airs.

Interest in his title reign has peaked thanks to his two-week build of a feud with Brodie Lee, but it all feels like too little, too late. Plus, I can’t help but feel like Moxley’s reign will be overshadowed in the history books as one that happened during the height of a global pandemic.

The best way to save his reign now is to put it out of its misery. Have Lee win, build Moxley as a chaser for the time being, then when there are less life distractions to overshadow AEW TV, then he can win it back as AEW’s first two time World Champion.
