Shawn Spears vs. Dustin Rhodes

Bryan Heaton: Boy, Dustin really learned under the Terry Funk tree, didn’t he? “Retiring” and making a comeback that quick is straight out of the Funker’s playbook. But honestly, with it looking like Shawn Spears still has Cody in his sights, Dustin is the perfect opponent to tread water with until the time is right to revisit Spears/Cody.

I think Spears takes this one en route to staking a claim for the TNT Championship, and Dustin actually, truly, really retires… until All Out.

Chris Jeter: The fact that Spears used Rhodes’ substance abuse problems to add some heat to this one tells you how much thought was put into this match. But it should be a competently wrestled one that ends with Rhodes picking up the clean win to recoup some of his momentum.

Samantha Schipman: Both men could use a win, but Spears really needs it. Rhodes is coming off of a big loss against Lance Archer that is kept him from a rematch from his brother for the TNT Championship. Beating Spears would set him on a path for redemption. On the other hand, Spears has been floundering without much direction. He looked for a tag partner for a while, but nothing panned out. He now has a SSN segment and winning will give him some content.

Jesse Velasquez: A match thrown together on Dynamite this week. Dustin Rhodes is like a fine wine that has gotten better with age. As good as Dustin has been in the ring, Spears should be his equal on Saturday. He is sort of spinning in limbo with a direction to move in and is overdue for a big win here. Neither man has won a singles match on Pay Per View in AEW. Someone’s 0 has got to go, and I think it’s Spears.
