TNT Championship Tournament Finals

Cody vs. Lance Archer

Bryan Heaton: Cody showed some restraint in not booking himself to be the first ever AEW World Champion, but now that he has effectively removed himself from contention of that title, will he resist temptation again?

Judging on the very traditional storyline unfolding, I say no. Big monster heel with a cerebral, creepy manager squaring up with a babyface family man? And the heel has gotten the upper hand at nearly every turn so far?

You gotta go with Cody here — especially with Mike Tyson at AEW Double or Nothing 2020, because someone is getting knocked out, and either Archer or Jake the Snake is the most likely candidate.

Chris Jeter: This one could go either way. Actually, no it can’t because this is pro wrestling and they already know who’s winning beforehand, so throw that cliche in the dumpster. I’ll predict three things here. First, Brandi will get her revenge on Jake Roberts for that simulated humping from a few weeks ago via a slap and a low blow.

Second, Cody will pin Archer to win the title. And third, Mike Tyson will knock out Roberts during the title presentation. Why do you think Tyson’s been getting in shape for the last couple weeks?

Samantha Schipman: I understand all the reasons that Cody should win, especially with Jake Roberts’ treatment of Brandi. I do think he’ll get his from Brandi. However, Archer should be the inaugural champion. I laid out my reasons a few weeks ago.

The whole reason that Archer was hired by Roberts was to take down Cody. If Archer doesn’t win, what’s this all been for? It’s not like we’re getting Cody vs. Roberts. Archer should be the first TNT Champion to quiet the “AEW only puts titles on former WWE guys” crowd (yes, Archer was in WWE, but most people don’t remember that).

Amit Shukla: A match of this magnitude brings a lot of in-ring action and powerhouse performance with it. The result of this match will crown a new AEW TNT Champion, and in the current state of things, it would be a good idea to see Lance pick up a win.

With Lance as the champion and Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts by his side, this story will develop into something that will rule every show through 2020. You cannot deny a storyline involving Arn and Jake too because the two were close to exchanging blow on Wednesday Nights. Can we expect a surprise entry from Pac?

Jesse Velasquez: This bout has been built up well. Cody seems to be the centerpiece of the feuds that have mattered most to AEW fans. It’s a testament to his character and work. Archer is the perfect opponent here.

An imposing character who will test Cody’s limits. Both men have hall of fame performers in their corners as well. Mike Tyson is an interesting component as well, will he get involved  during the match? This is a coin flip as both men will be just fine with or without the new TNT championship. Cody has lost his last two major pay per view bouts, so it’s time for him to get one back.
