AEW Fyter Fest 2020: Too early full match card predictions
Following the success of Double or Nothing, AEW looks forward to Fyter Fest where one match is confirmed and several others could be coming our way.
With AEW Double or Nothing in the books, that means it’s time to look forward. While we don’t have a confirmed date, we do know the next pay-per-view caliber event for the company will be AEW Fyter Fest 2020.
AEW All Out was announced for September 5, 2020, which makes the most likely time for AEW Fyter Fest being sometime in mid-July. The event was announced by AEW President Tony Khan during the media scrum following Double or Nothing, and we’ve already got one confirmed match.
The night’s main event will see Brian Cage challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, but how else might things shape up? Here we’ll take a look at what we could be seeing at AEW Fyter Fest 2020.
#1 Contendership for AEW Tag Team Titles: Jurassic Express vs. Proud ‘n’ Powerful
Potentially a match for The Buy-In, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another tag team clash to decide the number one contenders for the titles just like we saw before Double or Nothing. Jurassic Express have been spread out a bit as of late, scrapping with MJF and others, but we could see Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus present another united front and push their way up the tag division.
On the other hand, Santana and Ortiz have been on a roll as part of The Inner Circle. The duo known as Proud ‘n’ Powerful may not have been on the winning side at AEW Double or Nothing, but they got plenty of big moments and could be looking to reassert themselves as well moving forward.
Nyla Rose vs. Big Swole
Unfortunately for “The Native Beast,” she is no longer the AEW Women’s World Champion. Despite a powerful effort at AEW Double or Nothing, Nyla Rose fell in her title defense to Hikaru Shida.
On the other hand, Big Swole has been present at shows recently and quietly building a presence for herself. This is a clash we haven’t seen in AEW, and definitely a matchup of differing styles with lots of power between them that could be a big victory for either woman.
Orange Cassidy vs. MJF
“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy definitely tried during some of the Casino Ladder Match at AEW Double or Nothing. Meanwhile, MJF escaped with a victory over Jungle Boy.
While MJF will be looking to wedge his way into a World Championship picture that’s currently occupied, just for a moment imagine if MJF crosses paths with Cassidy and becomes frustrated with him. The ensuing match would be comedic wrestling gold.
AEW Tag Team Championship Match: Kenny Omega & Hangman Page (c) vs. Best Friends
After picking up a big win over Private Party during The Buy-In before AEW Double or Nothing, Best Friends have now earned a shot at the AEW Tag Team Titles. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page looked as coherent as ever during the Stadium Stampede, and now they’re back together with titles to defend.
Keep in mind that Best Friends picked up a win over Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa last month on AEW Dynamite, and Omega will be looking to avenge that. This isn’t a complicated match, and these two tag teams will give us something magnificent in their championship bout.
Lance Archer vs. “Broken” Matt Hardy
“The Murderhawk Monster” wanted to leave AEW Double or Nothing as the TNT Champion, but it didn’t work out as he or Jake “The Snake” Roberts had planned. He’ll surely be looking for a new target, and it wouldn’t be surprising for Roberts to turn their focus to a big name in the form of “Broken” Matt Hardy.
After a win along with The Elite in Stadium Stampede, there’s no telling where Hardy could be headed next. This is a fresh match for both competitors, and could be a huge win for Archer and a literally massive test for Hardy in his relatively young AEW tenure.
TNT Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Darby Allin
One year ago, Darby Allin fought Cody Rhodes to a draw at the inaugural AEW Fyter Fest. Since that night, Darby Allin has continued to improve in AEW but has as of yet failed to avenge that lack of victory. Allin fought Cody on Dynamite at the beginning of the year, but came up short.
He fought Cody yet again in the TNT Championship Tournament, but a poorly timed Coffin Drop saw Cody scoop him into a pinfall and escape with the victory. Darby Allin will want one more shot, and this time the TNT Championship will be on the line.
Steel Cage Match: Chris Jericho vs. Suge D
Recently, we saw the debut of Pineapple Pete in a ferocious although short loss to Chris Jericho. The nickname came from Jericho himself, but we could see that competitor back soon bearing the name Suge D.
Targeting Jericho to avenge the loss, Suge D would likely have to contend with The Inner Circle for weeks on end. That could all culminate at AEW Fyter Fest inside of a Steel Cage, where Suge D will try to topple “Le Champion” with The Inner Circle eliminated from the equation.
AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Kris Statlander
The most logical pick here is Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., but she’s currently injured and we won’t know until Wednesday how long she’ll be out. The former champion may get a rematch, but I’d expect Nyla Rose to have that rematch on an episode of AEW Dynamite.
That leaves an opening, and one that could certainly be filled by “The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” Kris Statlander. This would be a traditional babyface vs. babyface clash all about respect and the championship, which could be a welcome change of pace for all involved.
AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Brian Cage
The night’s main event is the one match we already know to expect. Brian Cage made his shocking debut at AEW Double or Nothing as the final entrant in the Casino Ladder Match, and he walked out as the victor.
With Taz at his side, Brian Cage seems more dangerous than ever. Jon Moxley has proven himself against Jake Hager and Mr. Brodie Lee, but could Cage finally be too much for Moxley to handle? Either way, this will be a must-see main event.
