Jon Moxley (c) vs. Brian Cage, AEW World Championship

(Note: The majority of the predictions for this match were submitted and discussed prior to the news that Jon Moxley was in self-quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19. We’ve left the original predictions unchanged in the increasingly unlikely event the match takes place as scheduled.)

Bryan Heaton: This one is honestly a bit of a coin flip for me. More often than not, babyface characters have better stories during the chase for a title than in defending it. Moxley had some of his best moments in AEW leading up to his victory over Chris Jericho. Would he be able to capture those same moments a second time around?

At the same time, Cage, though established outside AEW as a monster, is still new to the scene. IS it too soon for him to rise to the top of the mountain? Besides the Casino Ladder Match a month ago, he’s faced no one of real consequence — does he have what it takes to beat Mox in a “fair” fight? (Although with Taz around, odds of it being fair are slim.) I think Moxley retains after being nearly broken by The Machine.

Chris Jeter: Much like the Moxley/Brodie Lee match at Double or Nothing, this is a match where it feels like it’s too soon for either man to lose. However, Cage needs the win a bit more, so I’ll pick him to win the title here.

Jesse Velasquez: This bout will be a war of attrition. Hard hitting between 2 stubborn pitbulls that won’t back down from anyone. Brian Cage debuted at Double Or Nothing, much like Jon Moxley did the year before. He did so with less fanfare but made a similar impact. Including earning the right to challenge Moxley for the AEW title.

Cage is slowly being introduced to us as a behemoth who can simply overpower his foes. While some are aware of his incredible agility, we still don’t know much about his character. AEW hasn’t dropped the ball on that but it’s hard to believe they would put the title on a man who debuted one month prior with minimal background on who Brian Cage.

I expect something to happen during the match that will keep Cage looking strong even in defeat. Moxley will retain and the feud could potentially continue pending upon how the match is laid out.

Samantha Schipman: With the news that Moxley has been exposed to the novel coronavirus, there’s a possibility that this match is postponed. Assuming the match happens, I think it will be a very brutal affair.

We’ve seen Mox thrown into a car windshield. Cage is a bit of a loose cannon and Taz uses that to his advantage. Taz orchestrates most of the damage that Cage causes. They’re a formidable pair and Cage will push Moxley to his limit. I don’t see Mox dropping his title anytime soon and Cage won’t be the one to dethrone him.
