MVP vs. Apollo Crews
Result: MVP gets the win with help from Bobby Lashley
MVP cuts a promo before the match stating that Apollo Crews ignorantly rejected his offer for help and mentorship, stating that it’s disrespectful to reject the advice of one of the greatest United States Champions ever.
Apollo’s music hit, and he came out to set the record straight. He isn’t disrespecting MVP; he is a self-made man, just like MVP says he himself is. Apollo told MVP that the only person he wants to help is himself, and an enraged MVP called for the ref to ring the bell.
Early in the match, Apollo was putting on a show with a kip-up, headscissors, and power moves. Bobby Lashley tried to get MVP to safely, but he paid for it with a dive from the current United States Champion.
After the break, Apollo got a big nearfall with a spinebuster, showing a great deal of determination to drive home the point that he doesn’t need help from anyone – least of all MVP. But it was getting difficult with more interference from Bobby Lashley…and Lashley’s interference proved decisive, with MVP picking up the pin on a bridging fisherman’s suplex.
After the match, Lashley wasn’t done yet, hitting Apollo in the Full Nelson. Ricochet and Cedric Alexander needed to try and get Lashley off Apollo, but it still took them some effort to break the hold!
Grade: C-, This match will likely set up Apollo Crews’ bout at Extreme Rules, but at least Apollo was protected in the loss because the result came from Lashley’s interference. Even so, it hurts to see Apollo losing early in his US Title reign. The good part? Lashley looked like a star here, once again.
