Per the latest WWE Rumors, Seth Rollins could have a show-stealing SummerSlam match if plans must change.

WWE usually head into Pay Per Views with a good idea of the direction they are going in for their big stars, but they sometimes need to make some changes and keep their backup plans in mind. Seth Rollins’ current storyline with Rey Mysterio and Dominik is one of those situations that requires WWE to keep a few options open.

Firstly, Rey is working without a contract, and in order to get him to re-sign, which WWE wants, they need to prove to the future Hall of Famer that they are willing to push his son Dominik. So if Mysterio doesn’t re-sign, rumor has it that Dominik vs. Seth Rollins could be a match at WWE SummerSlam 2020. If Rey does by then, Dominik and his father will team up against Rollins and his disciple Murphy in a tag match at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

But there’s an “emergency backup” option for Rollins at SummerSlam, which Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue revealed on the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast with Korey Gunz.

Via Sportskeeda.com’s Lennard Surrao, Colohue says that WWE teased a breakup angle between Rollins and Murphy on the July 27 episode of Raw for a reason. They want to leave a Rollins vs. Murphy feud open as an option on the road to SummerSlam, in case they need to.

It seems like WWE already have Dominik vs. Seth in mind if Mysterio doesn’t re-sign, but there’s a chance Dominik is too green or the match doesn’t work out. So in that case, Rollins vs. Murphy would have to happen a lot earlier than anticipated, which isn’t ideal. Everyone wants this eventual feud to be built up correctly, as that would help Murphy the most. He has a ton of talent and is a former top-notch Cruiserweight Champion.

Hence, though, why it’s an emergency backup option in case WWE really needs to go that route. Even Colohue says it could easily be “abandoned” by the company.

I don’t anticipate it happening, but it explains the tease and is now something to monitor as we head into SummerSlam this August.
