WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon is ready to finally push Chad Gable
According to the latest WWE Rumors, Vince McMahon seems to agree with the Kurt Angle and Chad Gable comparisons.
It seems like Chad Gable will finally get a push on WWE SmackDown in the coming weeks. We saw this story play out last Fall during the King of the Ring Tournament, but all it let to was the awful “Shorty G” moniker and a big-time heel run for Gable’s bully King Corbin.
Now, Corbin has recruited Gable – rather easily – to his side, using Gable as a hired mercenary by offering him a “King’s Ransom” in order to take out recent Intercontinental Title challenger Matt Riddle.
According to Sportskeeda reporter Tom Colohue in his SmackDown review, via Sportskeeda.com’s Shruti Sadbhav, Vince McMahon wants to push Chad Gable because of his in-ring ability. And McMahon, like many wrestling fans, apparently sees “a lot” of WWE legend Kurt Angle in Chad Gable.
There are a lot of reasons why the Gable and Angle comparisons have been made, beyond the moonsaults and the amateur wrestling background. As a character, Gable can be a serious killer in the ring, which would likely be his in-ring heel persona if he does indeed turn heel with Corbin as an associate. But he’s at his best when he’s goofy, just like Angle was. It’s what makes his partnership with Jason Jordan so successful, both in and out of the ring.
Gable has been long overdue for a push, and he was a fan favorite in 2016 and 2017 when he started building some quiet momentum on the roster both with American Alpha and then shortly after the tag team was separated.
Hopefully, Vince McMahon maintains pushing Gable in the coming weeks and months, and this leads to something. Gable could be a great Intercontinental Champion on Friday Night SmackDown. And maybe Vince can help Gable both show off his in-ring prowess and that little bit of goofy Angle character work as a heel.
