WWE Payback 2020: Full match card and winner predictions
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax
The match we’ve known about the longest for WWE Payback will see The Golden Role Models, Sasha Banks and Bayley, defending their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles just seven days after both of them had to take on Asuka at SummerSlam. After WWE Raw, we know now who they’re facing as the unlikely duo of Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax will try to coexist as they aim for tag team gold.
Meanwhile, Sasha Banks and Bayley have had a very different time the last few days. Bayley is riding high after defeating Asuka despite having to be the first to challenge her at SummerSlam, while Banks lost to Asuka in both her title defense and their rematch on WWE Raw.
If Sasha Banks and Bayley were up against a more cohesive or formidable team, like The IIconics, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross, or even the reformed Riott Squad, I’d expect them to fail in their title defense this Sunday. Despite these struggles, I don’t think it’ll be enough for the brand new pair of Baszler and Jax to upset them and capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WWE Payback.
Prediction: Sasha Banks and Bayley retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles
Universal Championship No Holds Barred Triple Threat Match: “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns
The main event of WWE SummerSlam directly set the stage for the rightful main event of WWE Payback. Going into SummerSlam, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt was set to challenge Universal Champion Braun Strowman after months of animosity between these former allies.
The match was ultimately made Falls Count Anywhere, which lent itself to the kind of chaos Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” wanted to unleash. After things reached a boiling point, Strowman pulled out a literal box cutter and dismantled the ring, exposing the wood boards. It ultimately backfired, as “The Fiend” drove him hard into the wood more than once to secure the victory and become the new Universal Champion.
Moments after the match ended, Roman Reigns made a shocking unannounced return as he attacked both Strowman and “The Fiend” with devastating spears. SummerSlam ended the same way WWE Payback will end, with Roman Reigns standing tall and holding the Universal Championship above his head.
Prediction: Roman Reigns is the new Universal Champion
