Roman Reigns won the Universal Title at WWE Payback 2020, and he’s headed for the lengthy reign he’s earned.

When Roman Reigns returned at SummerSlam to attack Braun Strowman and the Fiend after their main-event match, we knew it was only a matter of time before the Big Dog reclaimed the WWE Universal Championship that he never lost.

One week later at Payback, Reigns, with Paul Heyman by his side, entered the arena with the contract and Strowman and Wyatt laid out on the broken ring. Within minutes, Reigns speared Strowman and pinned him to win the title.

According to a report from WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, Vince McMahon won’t “play around” with Reigns’ Universal Title reign. Vince wants the biggest star on SmackDown to hold the championship until “at least” WrestleMania 37. As part of the push, Reigns will have more input in promos and could potentially wrestle without a shirt or with new gear.

Reigns is the biggest male star in WWE without a doubt and has been one of the company’s top draws for years. Upon his return in at SummerSlam, the SmackDown ratings rose, and there are no arguments about Reigns’ importance to the company now.

Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman can have one hell of a run with the title

Together, Reigns and Heyman can have an incredible run with the title over the next several months, putting over stars on SmackDown along the way. Remember Reigns’ match with Murphy last year on the Blue Brand? That’s exactly how the Big Dog can help the entire roster.

A lot of fans would like to see Big E and Reigns go at it at WrestleMania 37, and maybe that could be a crowning moment for E as a top singles star in his own right.

The Universal Title needs him as the title’s rightful champion, and with new gear, new music, and even more biting promos, Reigns could further elevate SmackDown’s men’s world title.
