AEW should go all in on signing Serena Deeb
Serena Deeb joining the AEW roster should be a no-brainer.
Women’s wrestling enthusiasts watched AEW Dynamite in awe on Wednesday as NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa and WWE alumni Serena Deeb stole the show on a night where the life and legacy of one of the sport’s biggest supporters was celebrated. (May you rest in peace, Casey Michael.)
The sudden and recent involvement of Thunder Rosa was a pleasant surprise for many on the road to All Out. It seems that every time AEW has taken a step forward with the women’s division, a couple of leaps backward follow. Luckily, the booking of Rosa vs. Shida as the marquee Women’s Championship match for All Out was widely celebrated by just about everyone on either side of the argument.
As the days drew closer to the pay-per-view, Rosa was set to make her Dynamite in-ring debut, likely against an enhancement talent who fans would normally see on Dark. However, that was not the case whatsoever. The squared circle’s sirens were sounded as Serena Deeb was revealed to be Rosa’s opponent just hours before showtime.
A competitive women’s match between two non-AEW wrestlers on Dynamite wasn’t on many fans’ bold prediction lists for the evening, but that’s exactly what was delivered. Nothing less was expected after the match announcement, and the veterans made sure on that. In the end, Rosa went over to maintain her momentum for Saturday.
AEW needs Serena Deeb
Serena’s story shouldn’t end there, though. Deeb is coming up on fifteen years in the business with experience in OVW, Shimmer, WWE, TNA, and many other stops among the independent scene. AEW should without a doubt be next on that list, and “because, duh” should be a suffice reason.
So, in the off-chance that someone from All Elite is reading this, listen up. Serena Deeb is fresh off of a two-year tenure as a coach for WWE’s hottest brand. She was trusted with that position because she can work with just about anybody. Look at her two performances in the 2017 Mae Young Classic alone with up-and-comer Vanessa Borne and the experienced Piper Niven.
Deeb may not be well-known for her ring work. In fact, the casual fan likely remembers her as the bald woman from CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society. But she’s so much more than what was seen in a 2010 storyline. Speaking from first-hand experience, Serena Deeb is an outstanding professional who has traveled the world honing her craft and giving back to those who have come after.
AEW needs Serena Deeb in their locker room. AEW needs a passionate and positive individual who is capable of coaching rising stars such as Britt Baker, Nyla Rosa, Big Swole, Penelope Ford, and so many others, all while being able to put on memorable performances with those women.
Signing one significant person to the roster won’t solve every problem or erase every mistake. However, acquiring the talent and wisdom of one Serena Deeb would only be to AEW’s advantage. So go ‘all out’ on Saturday with Rosa vs. Shida, but go all-in with signing Deeb as soon as possible.
