There are several WWE fans who would like to see the Money in the Bank briefcase taken off of Otis, but there’s one influential force preventing that.

When Otis won the WWE Money in the Bank briefcase earlier this year in the main event cinematic ladder match, wrestling fans reacted with shock at a tag team wrestler winning the briefcase. Some fans wondered if Otis could use the briefcase to cash in on the SmackDown Tag Titles to help make the tag division look more important, whereas others believed Otis could gain more momentum as a result of his storyline with Mandy Rose and become the winner.

Mandy tried to help Otis win the Universal Championship off Braun Strowman by setting up a main event tag match with Otis and Braun as partners, but Otis decided to humbly take the high road and avoid cashing in.

But since then, Otis has lost a lot of momentum, and it’s getting to the point where many fans would like to see the briefcase moved off him. The Miz would be a prime candidate to take the briefcase due to their long-standing feud and the A-Lister’s own popularity, though John Morrison is another strong candidate.

According to a report from WrestleVotes, there have been “multiple” ideas pitched to have Otis lose the briefcase, and the ideas have been described to WrestleVotes as “really decent”.

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon remains high on Otis

So what’s standing in the way of Otis losing the briefcase?

Vince McMahon.

Recall that Fighful reported that Vince McMahon is high on Otis. WrestleVotes says that Vince is Otis’ “biggest fan” backstage, and, therefore, there aren’t any plans for one-half of Heavy Machinery to lose the briefcase.

As entertaining as Otis is and as much of a breakout star as he seemed to be earlier this year, it would be a wise decision for WWE to move in a different direction. We’ll see if Vince changes his mind, but we know how stubborn he can be. And with WWE trying to get fans in attendance for Raw and SmackDown shows, guessing the briefcase’s future is even more difficult.
