WWE Draft 2020: 5 bold predictions including major stars going undrafted
The 2020 WWE Draft is almost upon us, but which of these five bold predictions might become a reality this Friday or Monday?
This Friday, the 2020 WWE Draft is finally here. After being revealed in a Fox Sports exclusive, we finally know the official rules and draft pools for each night of the WWE Draft.
There are a few surprising things to keep in mind based on this news, particularly that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and Raw Women’s Champion Asuka will all be eligible on night one. It’s also worth noting that tag teams and factions are drafted together, even the massive six-person group known as RETRIBUTION.
While the possibilities seem endless, some potential outcomes stand out from the pack. Here, we’ll predict five bold moves that could come to fruition in the 2020 WWE Draft.
Sasha Banks is the No. 1 pick in the WWE Draft
The favorite going into night one as the number one overall pick has got to be Universal Champion Roman Reigns, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the one that goes first. While we know the rules will once again give WWE Raw and 3-to-2 advantage in total draft picks, we don’t know who will get that first selection.
Considering how captivating Roman Reigns has been as Universal Champion, it’s entirely possible FOX may not want to part with him. Should WWE Raw get the first pick, they might actually choose “The Boss” Sasha Banks, leaving SmackDown open to take Roman Reigns as second overall as WWE Raw then takes WWE Champion Drew McIntyre with the third overall selection.
Otis and Mandy Rose are reunited by the WWE Draft
The dastardly actions of The Miz as he tries to steal the Money in the Bank Briefcase from Otis have included going as far as getting Otis’ girlfriend Mandy Rose traded to WWE Raw. Looking at the pool for night one, both Heavy Machinery (Otis and Tucker) and Mandy Rose will be eligible.
Whether we see them end up back together on SmackDown or Otis and his tag team partner join Mandy Rose on WWE Raw, it’s time to bring these two wholesome superstars back together. Moving Otis to Raw would also open up new possibilities as he could turn the focus of his Money in the Bank Contract towards WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
Rhea Ripley, not in either WWE Draft pool, is brought up from NXT
The official rules and draft pools confirm that WWE NXT will not officially be a part of the 2020 WWE Draft. It’s a decision that may bring a sense of relief to some, while others are surely disappointed the black and yellow brand won’t be a part of the festivities.
However, their lack of mention doesn’t mean NXT superstars are guaranteed to be safe. We’ve seen it happen before, and the most likely choice would be for WWE Raw or SmackDown to draft Rhea Ripley. NXT’s women’s division is brimming with talent thanks to the returns of Ember Moon and Toni Storm, while Rhea Ripley needs a change of scenery and could be an asset to either brand.
The Miz & John Morrison are split up on night two of the WWE Draft
As we’ve seen before, tag teams and groups will go together unless a brand specifically chooses to draft only one member. That technicality could come into play this year by seeing WWE Raw select The Miz, but not John Morrison.
It would be a logical call for USA Network, as The Miz’s reality show Miz & Mrs is due to return for another season on November 12. It would make sense for the network that hosts WWE Raw as well as Miz & Mrs to want the star on their show and to want the focus on him rather than shared by his tag partner John Morrison.
RETRIBUTION is not picked during the 2020 WWE Draft
The final bold prediction for the 2020 WWE Draft has to do with the massive six-person group known as RETRIBUTION. We’ve seen T-Bar, Mace, Slapjack, Reckoning, and Retaliation in recent weeks, but it was only this Monday on WWE Raw that Mustafa Ali was seemingly revealed as the group’s leader, potentially salvaging a struggling storyline.
Honestly, it makes absolutely no sense for either brand to willingly select RETRIBUTION. Their entire goal is to target the WWE and cause problems, who would want that? As is noted in the official rules, anyone who goes undrafted becomes a free agent.
Should RETRIBUTION go undrafted, it might actually open the door for them to cause chaos on both brands in the coming weeks. After an obligatory chaos period, we could see The Hurt Business push for RETRIBUTION to be signed to the same brand they arrive on in hopes of finally settling the score between the two factions.
